Getty Images and BBC Studios are revolutionizing access to archival video content. A newly announced partnership provides customers with an intuitive platform to search the BBC’s vast media archives and view and download over 57,000 digitized programs.

Powered by VIDA Content OS, the platform makes finding and acquiring footage from iconic BBC shows seamless. Software tools let users securely browse, annotate, clip, share, and download previews. After clearing rights, high-resolution masters are available immediately – a boon for producers on tight deadlines.

Curated content collections around trending topics and upcoming events spark ideas. Speech-to-text transcripts unlock previously hidden gems. Now, beloved programs like The Office, Top of the Pops, and Planet Earth are available on-demand for the first time.

Paul Davis, Getty Images VP of Media and Production EMEA, said the platform significantly improves content accessibility. “Our team increasingly works as a creative partner. This will considerably enable our efforts in supporting producers to derive successful, returnable shows.”

BBC Studios’ Chris Hulse echoed the strategic nature of the tie-up. “Getting BBC content into program makers’ hands is our partnership focus. This is a game changer, surfacing previously offline archive material.”

Managing Director of VIDA Symon Roue noted that efficient search and licensing systems are expected as demand for archival video grows. “Accessibility to the clips that matter using the latest cloud and AI is where Content OS excels.”

The BBC partnership expands Getty Images’ video offerings. Over 200,000 BBC clips are already available alongside 25 million videos – including 12 million 4K clips and vast offline archives.

Getty Images meets the visual content needs of any customer globally via its websites and APIs. Over 551,000 contributors provide unmatched coverage in news, sports, and entertainment. Its best-in-class creative library and custom solutions elevate creative processes.

With AI-powered generative tools trained on permissible content, customers can quickly ideate and generate commercially viable visuals. This further builds on Getty Images’ capabilities to deliver exactly what customers need.

BBC Studios drives most BBC Group profits via content development, production, sales, and distribution. Around 2,400 hours of its programming, like Strictly Come Dancing and Doctor Who is internationally recognized. Its digital news platform, BBC.com, has 139 million unique visitors every month.
