iStock’s new AI tool lets you place products in any scene you can imagine
iStock, which is part of Getty Images, is enhancing its AI features with a new tool that lets users insert product photos into AI-created backgrounds. This innovation, part of iStock’s Generative AI platform powered by NVIDIA Edify, aims to change the game in product photography by removing the need for costly photoshoots.
This feature is included in iStock’s revamped Unlimited AI subscription plan, which costs $24.99 each month (22.99€ in EU). One of its main features is the automatic background removal from uploaded product images, making it easier for marketers and content creators to showcase their products in various ways.
In my opinion, this could be a major breakthrough for small businesses and marketers who want high-quality product images without the usual costs. Users can create unlimited AI images and edits, although there are daily limits for security reasons.
The latest update also adds a reference image feature, allowing users to upload their own images to guide the color and composition of the AI-generated scenes. This gives users more creative freedom while keeping their uploaded images private and not used in the platform’s training.
Built on NVIDIA’s Edify technology, the system includes several upgrades, such as improved 4K detail, support for longer prompts up to 250 words, and better skin texture rendering for more lifelike results. iStock continues to prioritize commercial safety, providing $10,000 in automatic legal protection per image and ensuring that generated content is free from brand logos, characters, and other intellectual property issues.
iStock’s method for AI image generation really focuses on being ethical. They only train their model using images from their licensed creative library. Plus, they have a program to pay contributors, so artists whose work helped train the AI get paid regularly.
