Shutterstock becomes first stock media giant to surpass 500 million assets

Shutterstock, a leading stock photo and stock video provider, surpassed the 500 million assets threshold this week. This solidified its role as the biggest stock media provider right now.

Right now, Shutterstock’s library contains 460 million images, 33 million videos, 100,000 audio tracks, and an additional 50 million editorial images and videos.

Over the years Shutterstock acquired several other stock media providers. If we also count all the subsidiaries, the number is closer to 700 million. Pond5 adds an additional 140 million videos, images, SFX, music, and templates, and PreimumBeat 60,000 audio files. Turbosquid and Pixelsquid are 1.6 million 3D models, and GIPHY is known for the millions of GIFs, stickers, and clips.

While Shutterstock’s achievement is remarkable, the competition in the stock media industry is fierce. Adobe Stock, a relative newcomer, has rapidly grown to 420 million assets, partly due to inheriting Fotolia’s library. Alamy stands at 362 million assets, while Depositphotos is closing in on 300 million. Additionally, Getty Images and its subsidiary iStock collectively offer 400 million assets.

So, do you think Shutterstock will be the first one to reach a 1 billion assets library?
